The workplace NOW

The majority of the workforce is currently working remotely across industries. Large organizations and the Service industry have shifted to remote working at a faster pace and a higher percentage, allowing more flexibility to their operations as our Global survey shows.

The Impact of Working Remotely

Although answers are split between positive and negative impact of remote working, larger organizations are mostly positive, as for them massive cost-cutting of workplace real estate, operational and maintenance costs are predicted, where office renovation is concerned. Our Global survey shows are minor differences between employment levels, with middle management being more positive. On the other hand, major differences between industries are seen, with IT being all for remote working and Hospitality taking a rather negative stance, expectedly.

Measures to welcome the workforce back

Most organizations claim to be prepared to welcome employees back to an open office workplace, having taken all necessary measures to ensure safety at work. That’s an optimistic outlook as very few organizations have actually taken measures other than what local laws and regulations mandate, regarding ergonomic office safety.

Towards a new Workplace

Half of organizations are working to redefine their post pandemic office design due to this Workplace Revolution. At the same time 1 out of 10 organizations will be reducing or discarding physical workplaces altogether in the immediate future, which would cause a major disruption in Commercial Real Estate. One out of three companies will remodel offices to adapt to new needs, with larger organizations leading the way.

COVID-19 has brought unprecedented challenges. Many companies around the world have risen to the occasion, acting swiftly to safeguard employees and migrate to a new way of working that even the most extreme business-continuity plans hadn’t envisioned. Across industries, leaders will use the lessons from this large-scale work-from-home experiment to reimagine how work is done—and what role offices should play—in creative and bold ways.

Only 10% of organizations were impartial or felt that they did not need to take special measures, toward enhancing performance, office safety or workplace health.
Only 7% of the organizations resolved in price reductions due to the effects of COVID-19 circumstances.

Working remotely… forever

Especially in larger organizations, 3 out of 4 see more than a quarter of their people permanently working remotely, while for 2 out of 10, this increases to half of them staying away from the office forever. At the same time, disrupted from this Workplace Revolution Banking, Financial Services and the Hospitality sector, expect significant reduction of headcount in a year, whereas IT is expecting a boom of 30%.
